A passion in naval architecture and marine engineering
Concept Naval has been actively working in ship design and production for over 20 years. With over 20 vessels designed by our office and built by various shipyards and over 10 major conversions, Concept Naval has taken an envious market share in eastern Canada.
Noteworthy examples in our range of designs are the "Famille Dufour II", built in 1996, one of the first Canadian high speed passenger vessels, capable of carrying 250 passengers at above 25knots on day cruises and the "CNM Evolution", a 43m high speed catamaran carrying 30 cars and 150 passengers at a full load speed of 28knots. Operated privately, the "CNM Evolution" navigates a 55 minute route in eastern Quebec and, since its commissioning in 1997, has
given years of uninterrupted service with very low maintenance and operational costs.
In 2005, a 24m research catamaran was built to our design. This novel design has evolved from the requirement for a very low cost platform for conducting university marine research. The "Lampsilis" was built on a tight budget of 2.6 million CAD. Made of aluminum, the "Lampsilis" incorporates various cost reduction approaches including multihull platform for low fuel cost, high efficiency waterjets, low weight and low maintenance hull materials. The vessel features an A-frame for launching
and retrieving testing equipment, wet and dry laboratories, large working deck and a 1m draft for shallow water operation.
In 2006, Our office prepared a complete structural ABS Class Package for a 74m,140t bollard Anchor Handler. The contract included the design of the ship's 450t primary and 135t secondary winch.
